Patchouli Oil is known to possess antifungal properties and is being used in skin infections, dandruff and eczema. In aromatherapy, patchouli oil is recognized for its anti-depressant, anti-inflammatory, cytophylactic and deodorant. Historical records reveal that more than hundred years ago Indian export fabrics used to be heavily perfumed with patchouli leaves, a technique later adopted by the French manufacturers to create typical oriental aroma for their home spun shawls. Dry patchouli leaves have also been found to possess moth repellent properties and therefore are used to scent wardrobes and protecting clothes especially woolens from insect damage.
