Our organically crafted Valerian Hydrosol is steam distilled from the rhizomes of perennial flowering plant, Valeriana officinalis. Popularly also known as the Heal All, Valerian Root has been heralded as a brain booster for hundreds of years for its calming, grounding, and emotionally balancing influences.

Valerian is derived from a Latin adjectival form of the personal name Valerius. It comes from the latin verb 'valere' meaning being well, feeling good, and having a good morale, in reference to the medicinal properties of this plant. Valerian has been used as a medicinal herb since the time of ancient Greece and Rome.

Possessing a rich, woody and unusual aroma, it is important to note though Valerian may not smell very pleasant to everyone, it has an extended history since the ancient world as a medicinal herb for treating nervous disorders and hysteria.

Just like its essential oil counterpart, Valerian Hydrosol is revered for its ability to cure insomnia and improve the quality of sleep. Its many active components coordinate an ideal release of hormones and balances the body cycles to stimulate restful, thorough, undisturbed sleep. Valerian Hydrosol is also widely used to improve mood and reduce anxiety. The same mechanism of action that enables healthy sleep also help to reduce the negative energy and chemicals in the body that can induce anxiety and stress.

Valerian Hydrosol can also be used in an anti-dandruff treatment or for dry scaly skin when added to a skin cream or cleanser. It has antibacterial properties and can be helpful for wounds, open sores, insect stings and bites.
